Navy Officers Face Undisclosed Charges
Three U S Navy officers at Subic Bay will face undisclosed charges as a preliminary inquiry opens into the destroyer Evans Melbourne collision. Cmdr Albert S McLemore Lt (jg) Ronald C Ramsey and Lt (jg) James A Hopson are named as the officers involved in the probe following the June incident that killed 74 sailors. The inquiry at the base near Manila will be closed to the public while officials brief press on the charges and procedures. The joint U S Australian board earlier studied the accident and recommended further action by higher authorities. Ramsey claimed misreading a Melbourne message while Hopson testified that Ramsey gave the command leading to the collision.

Hershey Won’t Talk On Call To Retire
