Tax Cuts Rammed Through By House Committee
The House Ways and Means Committee moved to extend tax cuts to about seven million middle income filers previously excluded from the reform. Rep. Wilbur Mills said the brackets for married couples earning 7 333 to 13 647 were overlooked and will be cut as part of the reform bill. The action adds about 1.2 billion in 1971 and 2.4 billion in 1972 to the cost of the plan, supplementing a broader effort to shave about five percent from all rates by 1972.
