Nevada Music Festival Awarded to Las Vegas

The fifth annual Nevada state music festival for 1938 was awarded to Las Vegas after a Winnemucca conference that drew over 1800 students and teachers. Adjudicators Emory Epperson and Adolph Otterstein rated performances to improve participants, not prize outcomes. The letter from Mrs. C P Squires praised Vegas entrants and noted standout performers Eleanor Paulus, Miriam Burwell, Audrey Paulus, and Evelyn Jones.

Mother's Heroic Rescue Of Son In Nevada Mine

In Good Springs Nevada Ernest Pack and his mother Annie Davis, with friend Chuck Sackler, explored the Clementina mine tunnel 400 feet long. A gas pocket felled Ernest gasping. Chuck climbed 150 feet, reached a platform, sent for air and help, while Mrs Davis waited above in darkness peering for light as her son collapsed mid shaft.

Helldorado Parade Details Planned by Fred O'Donnell Committee

Helldorado officials led by Fred O Donnell prepare events for the Helldorado Rodeo starting May 18. Jim Cashman leads the parade featuring Death Valley Scotty and A M Johnson with a stage coach and pack train. The procession forms on South Main and moves at 6 30 p m from Fremont to Helldorado Village at Sixth and Fremont, with no motor vehicles allowed.

Shriners Plan Meadows Party for May 17

Boulder-Vegas Shrine Club schedules a dinner and exclusive event at The Meadows on Monday May 17 for Masons, Shriners, and their ladies. Tickets are 1.50. Elmer Mikkelsen chairs arrangements, with Mike Silver and Paul Webb on the committee. President H. P. Marble urges full attendance and fez wearers ready to respond to duty.

Chiquita Mine Expands Output At Goodsprings Site

The Age reports rapid progress at the Chiquita mine eleven miles west of Goodsprings. Manager James Maxfield and Supt. James J. Smith oversee boosting ore production to about 100 tons daily with an average value of ten dollars per ton. Underground workings extend 1500 feet, surface operations cover about a mile, and a hilltop head frame signals a thriving, modern milling complex.
