Broilers dropped to an average of 18.61 cents at the Sept 19 Lancaster Poultry Exchange auction. The high was 20 cents and the low 18 cents as 4,470 birds were sold. Listings show Roy B. Martin and others with various Indian River and White Wanteress lots, prices ranging from 17 to 29 cents.
Slaughter steers held steady in Chicago with cows up 25 cents and hogs active. Bulls and vealers steady while stockers and feeders traded around. spring lambs and yearlings weakened. Receipts at 12 major markets fell from the prior week, hogs up on offer by about 14 600 head. High choice steers reached 2650 dollars for 1 225 head, barrows and gilts 1885 to 19, and 290 pounders at 19. West Virginia stocker cattle and calves showed 70 to 125 dollars a head and stocker steers from 1550 to 2050 per hundredweight.
In the Lancaster Market report, overall supplies fell 13 percent from the prior week due to reduced movement of grass cattle from southern states. Fed steers ranged from good to prime with prices mostly steady, cows up to 50 cents higher, and bulls steady. Stockers and feeders were firmer with solid clearance by midweek. receipts split about 45 percent stockers feeders and ten percent cows.
