A 900 pound Angus steer BooBoo Jr. won the Grand Championship at the Solanco Fair Beef Show. Owner Roseme Linton accepted the award as the Angus entry topped rival cattle for the second crown in the event.
Mrs Milton K Morgan of 6 New Holland Pike topped the sheep department in the fifth annual Pennsylvania Livestock Exhibition. She is a noted Suffolk breeder with multiple wins. The event highlighted livestock from Lancaster and surrounding counties with first beef cattle entries and prize hogs.
Lancaster County Agricultural Council will host C Bickley Foster Lancaster County Planning Commission director as speaker on September 28. He will discuss How Urban Sprawl Affects Our Rural Areas and lead a Q and A on planning and zoning issues. Meeting at 1 30 pm in Production Credit Building Lancaster.
Thirteen Lancaster County 4-H light horse riders advanced to the state final from district 10 elimination at Ludwig's Corner Hunt Club Ches ter County. State runs offs with 19 entries in 10 classes occur November 6 to 10 in Harrisburg alongside the Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition.
John Welk of Strasburg Ro turned in a unique double win at the Southern Lancaster Community Fair dairy show. He exhibited a mother and daughter pairing to capture both Grand and Reserve in Holstein, with a three year old cow Colantha Dandy D. Stonehurst and her first offspring Christine A. Stonehurst.
Amos and Kenneth Rutt of Quarryville R2 repeat as adults champions at the Solanco Fair. Kenneth also wins county 4-H title while Carl Troop of Quarryville R3 claims the FFA championship. Other 4-H placings include Michael Shoemaker and Scott Shoemaker, with various Quarryville entrants.
Lancaster county entries in the Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show at the Farm Show Building Harrisburg took one Junior Championship and two first places. Averill L. Royer 2025 Oregon Pike Lancaster judged junior champion of the 4 H show, facing strong seniors in grand championship. Champion 4 H Holstein was Fairwood Reflector Emmy Lou owned by William Fairchild Berwick R2 Glenn A Musser Mount Joy Rl showed junior yearling to first in its class in FFA judging.
Hastings Showed Grand Champion Boar and Grand Champion Gilt at the Solanco Fair on Thursday. Awards recognized John C Hastings Jr of Kirkwood Ri for the top pair from a litter of nine Chester White pigs born to Hanover It Reserve. Reserve Boar and gilt awards went to the Ruoss family of Ephrata Ri for Duroe entries with Franklin B Ruoss and W F Ruoss presenting.
The five day outlook shows temperatures about seven degrees above normal with nightly lows around 54 and afternoon highs near 74. Expect warm, steady conditions with little variation and minimal precipitation. Hurricane Esther dropped only about 0.4 inch of rain on Lancaster County.
