Neighbors Help In Clean Up Of Storm Damaged Tobacco Barn
Neighbors and friends arrived within hours to help clean up a tobacco barn blown 15 feet from its foundation by a severe storm in the Garden northwest area. The 40 by 70 foot barn on J B Hostetter & Sons farm, tenanted by Donald Newcomer, contained a crop of newly tied tobacco damaged Tuesday morning. Crews removed wreckage to salvage what remained of the green crop. Helpers included Clarence, Arthur and Paris Hostetter, Clarence Gruber, Norman Gruber, Elam Shearer, Earl Witmer, Wilbur and Earl Brubaker, Daniel Will, Mark Newcomer, Ray Summy, Clarence and Robert Douple, Paul Stauffer, Ralph Hostetter and Dick Newcomer.

Pull-Off Tobacco Brings 14 to 15 Cents a Pound
Lancaster County pull-off tobacco damaged by hail in the Landisville area sold to independent firm A K Mann Jr. at 14 and 15 cents a pound this week. Very little pull-off tobacco is expected this year due to the superb crop in most districts, except where Monday's storm struck.

Solanco Fair Opens With Livestock Champion Crowned
The Solanco Fair opened with livestock judging on Wednesday afternoon as C Richard Hastings awarded the champion gift and champion Chester White boar. Angus champ was shown by Ernst Frey of Quarryville with a reserve Angus by Donald Herr of Reston. The parade drew a large downtown crowd and the 1956 Harvest Queen was crowned before a big gathering.
