National Farm Family of the Year Story of Modern Pioneers
Dutch couple Gerrit and Tina Boerema, emigrants who fled Holland after World War II, won the National Farm Family of the Year award from the Farmers Home Administration. They moved from Springfield Missouri to Minnesota and then Tar Heel County North Carolina, where they reclaimed marsh land known as Heavenly Land to build a dairy operation with FHA help and a land loan.
