Eight Lancaster Townships Seek Drought Emergency Aid
Eight Lancaster County townships submitted requests to the State Disaster Committee for aid under the federal emergency livestock feed program. County ASCS manager Dorothy Neel noted no prior grants to individual townships and recalled a 1963 countywide request that was denied then approved later. The townships named were Penn, Conoy, Mount Joy, West Donegal, East Donegal, Rapho, Warwick, and Elizabeth.

Soil Testing Reports To Be Streamlined For Farmers
A Lancaster County vocational agriculture teacher told county association members that soil test reports will return to farmers with a new look. Richard Hackenberger from Penn Manor High School reported on a Soils Workshop at Penn State University. The service will give five soil types specific fertilizer recommendations, grouping best soils as Group I and others as Groups II through V based on growth potential.

All American Dairy Show To Host Nation’s Top Cattle
The Farm Show Building in Harrisburg hosts the third All American Dairy Show with 2358 head entered. Top cattle arrive after wins at Syracuse and Timonium. six principal breeds Ayrshire Brown Swiss Guernsey Holstein Jersey and Marking Shorthorn compete from fifteen states and Canada. Open 4-H and FFA youth entries total 500 blue ribbon animals. Monday features a junior dairy show and a sale at 6 PM offering 45 females and three bulls.

Heat trials in tobacco sheds aim to curb curing losses
Lancaster County farmers study supplemental heat in tobacco sheds at Penn State Southeastern Field Research Laboratory. John Yocum notes yearly shed damage from micro organisms and rotting.
