Phoenix to Recycle Wastewater for Irrigation
The Phoenix Wastewater Reclamation Project will reuse treated water for irrigation and unrestricted recreation. USDA ARS with Salt River Project EPA and the city of Phoenix pilot the program under Flushing Meadows research begun in 1967. RID near Phoenix will buy reclaimed water at about half current costs, easing water supply strain from dwindling underground sources and a 21 day rotation pumping 153000 acre feet annually for 38000 acres.
