Lititz 4 H Capons Triumph and Somerset Plowing Contest Planned

11-year-old Mike Peifer of Manheim runs a White Rock capon trio that placed near top in a countywide 4-H show sponsored by Lancaster Kiwanis Club. Trophies followed a Kiwanis luncheon with guest speaker Dwight Swartz of Penn State. In Lititz the champion streak continues with Hershey and Long already tying multiple wins. Somerset State Hospital farm will host Pennsylvania’s 1967 State Plowing Contest August 30 and 31, combined with a forage program sponsored by the Grassland Council and Penn State Extension. The event, patterned after a successful 1966 dual program, will feature sodbusting contests and larger plow outfits, with Nationals in 1968 at Hershey.
