Wheeler McMillen to Speak at Lancaster Banquet
Wheeler McMillen former editor of The Farm Journal and noted agricultural authority will headline the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Agriculture and Industry Banquet on November 10 at 7 pm. He will discuss Agriculture's Next Few Years and unite farming and business communities for mutual interests. McMillen has held top positions at Farm Journal Pathfinder and led the National Farm Chemurgic Council from 1935 to 1962.

U S Wheat Stocks Reach Lows Not Seen Since 1952
U S wheat stocks on October 1 totaled down 16 percent from a year earlier, marking the lowest October 1 holdings since 1952. Four feed grains combined stood at 58 million tons, 20 percent below last year and 36 percent under average, with each grain below its prior year. The overall October 1 tonnage was the lowest since 1954.

Dairy labor accounts for about a quarter of milk costs while skill needs rise. Farmers cut labor demand by boosting productivity, with milk output per man hour nearly doubling in a decade. Melvin Stoltzfus moved 45 registered Guernsey cows to a new 60-unit free-stall setup ten months ago.

Ten year old Sue Hershey of Lititz area won the top capon prize at the Elks Club in Lancaster, marking the fourth straight year a Lititz youngster took the top entry. Her trio of 9 1/2 lb White Rock Crossbreds were chosen over 16 entries by judge Floyd Hicks of Penn State. Hershey is the daughter of H Richard Hershey of Latutz Ri.
