Market report shows slaughter steers down 25 to 50 cents, cows 50 to 75 cents higher, bulls steady, feeders mostly steady. Highlighted lots: high choice prime steers 1075 to 1150 pounds at 26.40 to 26.65, 1440 pound loads 26.25, and odds 25.50 to 26.25 for other weights. Heifers 700 to 900 pounds 22.50 to 24.35. Cattle mix includes 35 percent slaughter steers, 15 percent cows and bulls, rest feeder steers.
Auction results dated October 18 1966 show slaughter steers steady to up 25 cents cows up 75 to 100 higher bulls steady to strong with 605 head including 31 percent cows. Prices list bids for various weights and grades across calves hogs and sheep with receipts totaling 251 head and note that continued pricing appears on Page 14.
Cattle prices mostly steady to higher with a small supply. Slaughter steers up to 25c gains, cows 25c higher, bulls 50c higher, feeders steady. Highlights include Choice 950-1300 lb at 25.50-26.85 with prime up to 26.60, and calves and vealers showing varied moves amid limited demand. Sheep and wool lambs mostly steady to $1 lower with light demand.
Cattle receipts 21 800 this week up from 21 200 last week and 25 600 a year ago with twelve market supply 185 600 up from 183 500 and 221 300 prior year. High good to prime slaughter steers 50 lower, average good and below steady to 50 lower, heifers 50 lower, average choice and better 25 50 lower. Cows steady to 25 lower, bulls steady. Steer and heifer beef in Chicago dressed beef trade steady to 50 lower. Prime 1175 1400 lbs 25 75 26 50, late mostly 25 75 26.00 with one load at 26 25.
