Two Barn Fires Cause $45,000 Loss in Lancaster County
Losses totaled 45000 from two farm fires in Lancaster County over the past week. A 29 by 100 foot barn on Frank M Herr’s Wabank Road farm burned for 35000 with 1300 chickens, 10 tons of straw, a harvesting combine and baler lost. Firefighters from West Lancaster Bausman New Danville and Millersville fought the blaze. A second fire four miles north of Manheim on Route 72 destroyed a 40 by 60 foot barn and outbuildings with a 10000 loss. Manheim and Penryn crews responded and Lititz stood by.

A 34 acre Martin M Zimmerman farm north of Goodville sold Monday at public auction for 1025 per acre, total 34882 dollars, to George Witmer, the seller's son in law, including a large bank barn with tobacco shed and a chicken house. Auctioneer Paul Z Martin of Blue Ball led the sale in East Earl.

Hess to Receive American Farmer Degree at Kansas City
James A. Hess, son of Elvin W. and a Strasburg area family active in 4H and FFA, will receive the American Farmer degree at the 29th annual FFA convention in Kansas City.
