Longenecker Tops Fair Steer Show at Manheim

18 year old Mike Longenecker of Lititz wins the Manheim Fair 4H Angus class with Clyde the steer, earning overall grand champion and becoming the first black steer to top a County Fair Show this fall. The steer originated from Trotwood Farms in New York. reserve grand champion went to the Hereford entry.

Egg Profits Get Key Spot In NEPPCO Expo Program

The Northeastern Poultry Producers Council expo will feature a twofold focus on profitability for commercial egg producers with price discovery and market activity on one track and improved management and husbandry on the other. Started pullets drive Pennsylvania egg production butmost pullets used as replacements are imported from other states. This results in over ten million dollars spent outside the industry annually. A started pullet is a young chicken raised to about 20 weeks before entering laying houses. Various strains exist with claimed production traits. Continued on Page 9.
