Ken Groff's Fair Steer Sells For 51 Cents A Pound

The grand champion Hereford steer Andy, shown by Kenneth Groff of Leola, sold for 51 cents a pound to Robert Groff Trucking Co at the New Holland Fair 4 H sale. The 13 year old owner bred by James Quisenberry York County.

Miss Martin Wins With A Landrace Pig

Susie Martin, 11, daughter of May Martin, showed a 190 pound Landrace barrow to the grand championship at the New Holland Swine Show. The reserve was a 206 pound crossbred shown by Mary Lou Fisher. Elvin Lapp won champion showman. Pigs to be sold Friday afternoon.

The Cloister Chapter of FFA at Ephrata High School earned a National Gold Emblem Safety Award. Eli C Wiggins said the award will be presented to Tom Bollinger with the Kansas City ceremony looming. Only 28 nationwide earned the emblem. one other Pennsylvania chapter at Middleburg earned it. Charles Ackley Jr, a former Ephrata Vo ag teacher, graduated from Middleburg.

Campbell tops tobacco show at New Holland

Robert Campbell of Narvon won grand champion lathe of tobacco at the New Holland Fair taking first in the wrapper class. Larry Weaver of New Holland won first in the filler class with multiple exhibitors placing in wrappers and fillers across R1 R2 and R4 groups.

Charles A Gable wins grand championship at the New Holland Hay Show for alfalfa and grass entries. First place alfalfa cutting earns $50. reserve honors go to David Wanner. Other top placers include Glenn Book Alfred Warner and Ivan Yost in various categories.

Merle Groff Wins Mystery Farm Contest at Lamper Show

Testers May Send Samples To Central Lab

Lancaster County milk testers may send samples to the Central Lab at Penn State for processing after a DHIA Board vote. The Farm and Home Center meeting focused on costs and the tentative plan to shift all samples to Penn State, with one year review and no county-wide requirement yet.
