Farm Fires Cause Heavy Loss in Lancaster County
Farm fires across Lancaster County last week caused extensive damage totaling thousands of dollars. Notable blazes include a 40 by 100 foot barn on L. M. Snavely’s farm near Lititz with 40,000 loss, and a David E. Yard barn, plus fires on farms of Ross Nathan and Edgar Funk. Hess to lead Lancaster Holstein group at annual meeting
Elvin Hess was named president of the Lancaster County Holstein Friesian Association at the fifth annual meeting in Gap Fire Hall. The former vice president succeeds Robert Groff, who moved to Quarryville. Attendance reached 272 of 318 members, with Donald S. Eby as vice president Henry H Hackman as secretary and J Z Herr as treasurer. Directors for three years include J Robert Hess Abner H Risser and Mr Eby. Groff Landisville and Galen W. Herr left the board.

Deer Licenses Still Available in Five Counties
Harrisburg notes antlerless deer licenses remain open in Crawford Meadville Susquehanna Montrose Wayne Honesdale Wyoming Tunkhannock York. The 1955 special season is set for December 12 and 13 with licenses issued by the county treasurer of the hunting area. Non residents may buy between November 12 and December 11 with a current non resident hunter license.

Two Lancaster County Guernsey heads were cited for outstanding records at the annual Lancaster County Guernsey Breeders Association banquet in Quarryville. Rhoads Acres received a cream jug for highest milk at the 1955 Harrisburg Farm Show and Hither Hills Farm earned an ideal-type Guernsey replica for top butterfat producer in Pennsylvania. Three new directors were elected Elmer Lapp Jason Weaver and Harry Muinma. Two 4-H teams were recognized.

Winter Blows In First Snow Melts Plows Open Roads
