Stoltzfus Is Outstanding Pa Young Farmer
Andrew D. Stoltzfus of Elverson R2 was named Pennsylvania Outstanding Young Farmer at the state convention in State College. He farms 236 acres with Registered Holsteins, built a new stanchion barn, and uses detailed records. He serves as an official Holstein judge, directs in the Interstate Milk Cooperative, and delegates to national milk and Holstein events in 1966 1967 and 1969. He helped start a Twin Valley High School young farmer program and cooperates with Berks County Soil and Water District.

Young Lamb Showmen Find Competition Good
Youths at the Harrisburg Livestock Exposition reported a good competition with two third place finishes led by Jay S Zimmerman of Ephrata Al in a three-lamb pen and heavyweight class. Dennis Palm and Marlin Bollinger both earned fourths in heavy and lightweight respectively, with multiple lower placings across pen-of-three and weights. Other winners included Thomas Bollinger and Frank Ruess with multiple top tens, and Carl Musser with pen-of-three and heavyweight placements.

Local youths Marvin Nissley John Enck Dennis Brubaker Mike Ober Steven Gehman led Hereford and Shorthorn projects at the Junior Livestock Show in Harrisburg winning the best five steers from one county. Karen High won a summer yearling championship but lost to a Chester County entry while David Wylie claimed the overall championship.

Steven Gehman, 12, son of Mr and Mrs Roland Gehman of Stevens Alabama, guided his reserve grand champion Hereford to the overall Hereford championship at the Junior 4 H Beef Show Tuesday. Nearby, Eric Overpeck and S Ehman of Clinton Indiana led steers to top exposition honors with an Angus grand champion and a Charolais reserve grand champion in the same event. In the open Hereford Show, I K Mast and Larry Weaver Morgantown placed first in the summer yearly class and were reserve Hereford champions, with Mast and Weaver also earning second through fifth places in other classes.

County Agent M. M Smith reports the Lancaster County Livestock Judging Team finished third at Harrisburg behind Virginia and Ohio. Members include Barry Longenecker Lititz R2 Marvin Nissley Mr Joy Donna Hess Strasburg R1 Karen High Leola Nissley noted 6th high with 713 points while Longenecker was 5th high in beef judging. Swine team placed second and sheep fourth.

The first Farm and Home Benefit Auction of antiques and art is set for Saturday December 6 at the Farm and Home Center Lancaster.
