Caswell S. Eidson reports on Marek's disease in chickens as an acute infectious lymphoproliferative illness with visceral lymphoid tumors. He notes Georgia inspected 32.5 million birds in January 1969, condemning 1.15 million, about 35 percent, and cites U S costs of 150 to 200 million dollars annually.
The Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition starts today November 8 and runs through next week with a full events schedule published on page 6.
The Lancaster County Farmers' Association announced the results of a reorganiz ation meeting held Tuesday night. Reelect Clyde Wivell of Columbia Ri as president James M Gaiter Mount Joy as vice president and James L Martin 567 Delp Road Lancaster as secretary treasurer.
Farm events listed include the 15 Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition at the Farm Show Building Harrisburg at 700 AM with the Lancaster County 4-H Council Sub Sale at the Farm and Home Center. On Sunday November 9 the Pennsylvania Farmers Association meeting occurs at the Penn Harris Motor Inn Camp Hill. Bronday November 10.
The Fisher family operates a 40 goat herd at Windy Hill Farm on Wind around Holly Tree Road south of Fruitville Pike east of Manheim. Visitors from New York and local neighbors visit to see the kids and their mothers along with the notable bully goat.
A Penn Manor High School session on commodity futures markets gathered teachers for insights from Richard Reed Reynolds & Co of Lancaster. The discussion explained how futures markets function and how educators can apply the concepts in class.
The Lancaster County Guernsey Breeders plan their annual meeting and banquet for November 14 at the Spanish Restaurant in Quarryville. Tickets cost 300 dollars and must be ordered by November 12. Glenn Eshleman will give a slide presentation as part of the program.
Carl Brown of Credit Service says they hope for a lower discount rate at the Farm Credit Service annual meeting, but foresee little change. He notes a good year for farmers with rain and crops, and predicts bigger farm units in the 1970s with higher costs and increased mechanization.
