Pennsylvania Tomato Growers Earn Less Per Acre Than Peers
Pennsylvania tomato growers posted a lower average gross income per acre than most major producing states. At a tomato roundup in Harrisburg, S. B. Stamp of Penn State noted Pennsylvania ranked fifth or sixth in per acre income, with $394, below New Jersey $564 and Ohio $504. The discussion urged stronger grower bargaining power via aAMA state associations to contract prices before planting. Wayne Tyler of aAMA said 21 states have joined and more cooperatives loom.

County Girl Places Third In Wool Contest
A Lancaster County girl captured third place in Pennsylvania Make It Yourself With Wool at the state exposition. Theresa Huber, daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Huber of Pequea, received a citation for the best versatile suit. She had earlier won the three county district contest in York.

Wesley Mast Elverson R1 topped the Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition in Hartsburg winning the Angus grand championship in the junior show after sweeping all three weight classes with his steer Kinney II. He also led the open class to claim the grand banner as Abe DiFi nbach auctioned Mast’s steer for a top price of 210 per pound and 2215 total.
