The U S Department of Agriculture will host its 43rd annual Outlook Conference in Washington DC from November 15 to 18. Topics include foreign trade farm commodities aging care income opportunities resource development family living and exports of U S farm products with input from agricultural and home economists from State Extension services.
More than 150 Lancaster County 4 H Club members were slated for honors at the annual 4 H Achievement night at Penn Manor High School. Awards for local district and national levels were presented honoring outstanding achievement. Virginia Wivell a state winner in Home Economics received a silver pitcher with her name inscribed.
Farm Calendar lists Pennsylvania Farmers Association meeting at York Towne Hotel and the Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition at the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg. Open class barrens at 8 am in the Farm Show Bldg small arena. 4 H and FFA teams gather in the large arena. Continued on page 6.
About 300 attended the Lancaster County Poultry Association banquet at Plain and Fancy Farm. Paul Hiestand donated 32000 to Lexi Brubaker for the Farm and Home Center fund, signaling commitment to a larger project and urging continued support to reach 375000 total. Levi Brubaker delivered the humor portion of the program.
The Lancaster Chester Chapter of the National Farmers Union will hold a reorganizational meeting November 9 at Solanco High School. Open to all farmers in Lancaster and Chester Counties, with a focus on dairymen. NFU director Dave Wilson of Washington, D C will discuss farm legislation impacts on the eastern farm economy and report on the new dairy bill.
Maxwell Smith Lancaster agricultural agent received a $250 Animal Science Award at the National Association of County Agricultural Agents meeting in Pittsburgh. One of four U.S. county agents honored, the award, created with Charles Pfizer Company, recognizes meritorious service to the animal industry.
Charles B. Shuman, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, told the National Commission on Food Marketing in Washington this week that farmers can boost bargaining power through organized but voluntary producer efforts to improve marketing efficiency. He noted government control programs have downsides and described the new American Agricultural Marketing Association as an affiliate to assist state Farm Bureau groups in expanding non governmental marketing projects amid evolving marketing changes.
Pennsylvania Power and Light Company announces 23 scholarships for high school seniors graduating in spring 1966. PP&L president Mr Jack K Busby says qualified parents must reside in the company's Central Eastern Pennsylvania service area.
The Commonwealth's farmers saw a 1 percent price rise in October with milk and hogs driving gains. Milk averaged 52.5 per hundredweight in mid October, 25 cents above prior levels.
The forecast covers Saturday through Wednesday with temperatures around 56 during the day and 37 at night. It will start cool with a gradual moderation by Sunday and only light precipitation, possibly less than an inch, likely as rain in the later part of the period.
