State sales tax director to speak on tax applications in agriculture and implements. Entertainment by 4-H members followed by a turkey dinner served by the Strasburg Fire Company Auxiliary.

ASC Announces Deadline Near Far Soil Bank
Lancaster County farmers are urged to apply to the Soil Bank conservation reserve within two weeks. The program offers 3 5 and 10 year contracts at 12 dollars per acre. Acreage equals average planted to soil depleting crops in 1955 and 1956. deadline is April 15.

Penn State dairyman wins $1000 Borden Prize for milk chemistry
Stuart Patton, associate professor of dairy science at Penn State, earns the $1000 Borden Award for research in milk chemistry. He will receive the prize at the 131st American Chemical Society meeting in Miami, presenting on Organic Chemical Effects of Heat on Milk. He has authored 66 papers and is active in multiple science societies.

Poultry Association Seeks Chamber Membership in Lancaster
The Lancaster County Poultry Association applied for membership in the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce at a Monday night meeting at the Center. An auxiliary group may be formed, and center-use rates were set: 15 dollars for up to 50 people, 20 dollars for 50 to 100, and 25 dollars for over 100, with youth groups exempt. Plans include county participation in Broiler barbecue week starting May 4 and the association’s own barbecue on June 15.
