Four Lan caster County farmers compete to be among three standout young farmers honored by the State Junior Chamber of Commerce at Gettysburg. Finalists include J Mark Bushong R2 Columbia J Robert Hess R1 Strasburg Forney Longenecker R8 Lititz and Kenneth A Skiles R2 Narvon among 20 finalists out of 130 entrants.
About fifty Flying Farmers from Pennsylvania and neighboring areas gathered for a regional association meeting here. They shared updates on aviation activities, farming practices, and cooperative efforts to support rural air travel and agribusiness.
Forty four registered Polled Herefords sold for an average of 625 at the sixth annual show and sale of the Eastern Polled Hereford Assn at the Guernsey Sale Pavilion on Lincoln Highway East. The grand champion female brought 2500 from Santa Fe River Ranch, Florida, while the grand champion bull sold for 1000 to Fauquer Farm, Virginia. The meet also featured a Pennsylvan ia Flying Farmers Association gathering at Lancaster Airport with about 25 farmers, tours, and new members invited by secretary L L Logan.
Lancaster County Extension Assn. asks Penn State to assign two student trainees to help the county agent and home economist from June to September. The move, decided Saturday, would aid 4 H members and allows withdrawing a request for permanent staff funds. The board elected J. Loyd Rohrer as president and listed officers for the coming year.
Swine breeders are asked to contact Associate County Agent Victor Plastow at the Lancaster Post Office Building if they have February or March pigs for sale suitable for 4-H club programs. Pigs need not be purebred but must be good type hogs that feed out well and look good in the show ring.
The Chester County Extension Office relocates to 31 West Market Street West Chester. County Agent Robert A Powers Jr announces the new address and phone number OWen 6 3500 for the office.
Local horticulture expert Harry S. Sloat invites property stewards to spring planning. A series of seminars next week, with Penn State ornamental horticulture specialist A. O. Rasmussen, cover plant materials planting and pruning demonstrations at Lancaster Poultry Center Bart Mennonite Church and Southeastern Artificial Breeders Cooperative along Harrisburg Pike.
