The Crop Reporting Service of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture says intended spring crop acreage will total 4 679 000 acres, down 51 000 from last year and 49 000 below the ten year average. Corn declines 52 600 acres with oats up 24 000. barley down eight percent. Soybeans slated six percent lower. hay remains around 2 249 000 acres.
Harrisburg announces payment of 42709.25 dollars in cash awards for the 1957 Pennsylvania Farm Show. Lancaster County led with 372 competitive entries, York 236, Lycoming 153, and 13 counties topped 100 entries out of 4187 exhibitors. Dairy cattle earned the most prize money, with 12155 dollars, followed by beef cattle and poultry.
The Channel Islands in the English Channel have been declared infected with foot-and-mouth disease by USDA officials. Hawaii restrictions imposed deny entry of livestock and related products from the islands to the United States, with Alderney Guernsey Jersey and Sark named among the affected areas.

Up to March 22 a total of 916 672 agreements had been signed placing 20 586 001 acres in the acreage reserve according to state Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation officers. The sign-up includes 4 574 254 acres of corn 3 019 746 of cotton 204 348 of rice 79 687 of tobacco and 12 707 966 of wheat including winter wheat.
Forty tickets remain for a 25 dollar Poultry Booster Dinner at Hostetters Mt. Joy on April 17. The 300 capacity hall has over 100 tickets allocated to guests, with each ticket admitting two persons. The Poultry Assn board also sent bids to bonding companies for bond buyers at the poultry exchange, with bids to be opened Wednesday and discussed Thursday.
