County Plowing Contest and Field Day Set July 25

Lancaster County plowing contest and conservation field day to be held in Ephreta area on Tuesday July 7. Aaron Z Stauffer notes two farms will host: Edwin Kurtz farm for plowing with a 15 acre small grain field and Louis Hurst farm for field day adjoining. Last year’s highlights included a greased pig chase and a fish shocking demonstration by the state Fish Commission.

SCS Trainee To Work In County

Wesley M Gordon a 32 year old University of Maryland senior will work this summer with the US Soil Conservation Service as a trainee in the county program. Gordon previously worked with the Agricultural Research Service at Beltsville Md and may pursue a career with SCS after graduation in January 1968. Raised on a Latacre beef farm in Maryland he studied vocational agriculture in high school. Continued on Page 9.

63 Local Boys To State FFA Four For State Office

Lancaster County Future Farmers of America sends 63 boys and 16 teachers to Penn State for FFA Activities Week from June 28 to 30. Candidates include Robert Weaver Strasburg, Adam Zimmerman East Earl, Jacob Steitz Narvon, and Daryl Bollinger Lititz. Glenn Weber of Mohns­on serves as a featured speaker. 1300 members and teachers from across the state attend with judging contests, the FFA chorus and band.
