Three Lancaster County consignments sold at the National Holstein Association Sale in St. Paul led with a $11,000 Blossomerie Prince Charming consigned by Mr and Mrs Herbert Roger. The top cow Sparkle brought $12,000 to Heather stone Enterprises of New Jersey, as 55 animals averaged $2804. A color-marking debate at the meeting saw amendments defeated 182 to 82 and a separate red and white registry proposal voted down.

County Vo-Ag Boys Capture 34 State Awards But No Firsts
Lancaster County farm boys at Penn State for Future Farmers week earned 34 state awards including nine gold medals nine silver seven bronze and nine honorable mentions but failed to defend any championships from last year. Abe Fisher of Penn Manor earned a gold and a trip to the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield Mass to compete in dairy products judging.

Fulton Grange Denounces State Tax Increases
Fulton Grange 66 met in Oakton on June 26 and voted to oppose new or added taxes as a revenue source for the State Legislature. They urged the legislature to operate within its current budget and rejected House Bill 1156 proposing a net income tax on unincorporated businesses and professions. The group also announced a US government savings bond prize for the Harvest Queen contest at the Southern event.

State FFA officers stay out of Lancaster County
Late bulletin reports no state FFA offices for Lancaster County Future Farmers this year. The slate of officer candidates was shut out, marking the first time in memory no state office was won by a local countian. Pennsylvania Tobacco Crop Seen Rising Despite Fewer Acres
The USDA Tobacco Situation report says Pennsylvania Type 41 filler may grow this year despite reduced planted acres. Last year’s low yields suggest near normal harvests, while carryover stocks drop toward six year lows. 1967 68 supply likely the smallest in eight years, with total supply around 160 million pounds, about five percent below last year.
