Washington Boro Tomatoes Get Trial by Local Growers

Washington Boro tomatoes are being trialed in the Rawlinsville area by Eugene Frey and William Weiler on about one acre. About 3,000 plants are in ground prepared with cocoa bean shells and soybean meal, with bloom visible. The variety is said to fruit two weeks earlier than Rutgers.

Kennett Square regional director Logan reports a trip to Wichita with 1200 baby chicks aboard a Cessna 170 to attend officer meetings. He flew via Beav County and Scott Ohio then back to Kennett Square logging 10 hours 20 minutes. Tailwinds boosted last 710 miles, setting new records despite midwest storms and floodwaters.

Farm and Home Days at Camp Hill Feature Forage Harvesting Displays

Camp Hill hosts the two day Farm and Home Day at Pennsylvania Industrial School with a seven county focus. Rain held off improving turnout for displays on irrigation systems 4 H club demonstrations and new hay bale handling. Agricultural Extension Service and Penn State sponsor this rotating event with Cumberland County as host this year.

State Poultry Federation Meet Starts June 12

Harrisburg announces the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania State University in University Park on June 12 and 13 1957. The program covers integration dressing plant inspection fresh egg laws price supports and crop controls impact on Pennsylvania egg and poultry meat producers with speakers from the USDA Poultry Division. A ladies program includes an exhibit Pennsylvania Dutch Stuff and Dutch Barn Medallions talk. The Drumstick Golf Tournament is set for June 13 at Centre Hills Country Club with handicaps for trophies. Election and installation of directors will occur June 13.
