Chester County Extension Sets Field Day July 22

Chester County Extension schedules a July 22 field day at the Arthur Hershey farm two miles south of town. Activities start at 12 30 p m with a dairy stable tour followed by field tours on no till corn weed control herbicide injury and diseases of corn and alfalfa and a 3 p m sprayer performance check.

Holstein Breeders Field Day Slated in Lancaster

The Lancaster County Holstein Breeders Association sets its annual field day for Tuesday August 3 on C Richard Landis Farm Horseshoe Road Lancaster. Judging starts at 10 30 a m with Jack Fairchild as official judge. A pork barbecue at noon costs 1 50 with milk and ice cream provided. Afternoon program continues.

Mount Joy 4 H Calendar and Poultry Meeting Updates

A review of upcoming Mount Joy area 4 H activities includes 9 am events at St Mark s United Methodist Church and a 7 30 pm Horse Club leaders meeting at Lancaster County Riding Club. Farmers Assn Picnic Slated at Lampeter Fair Grounds

The Farmers Association annual summer picnic is set for 7 pm Saturday July 31 at the Lampeter Fair Grounds. Tickets cost $1 and are available through Mrs. Robert Groff in Quarryville or by calling 786 3918 before July 23. The event features a chicken barbecue games and door prizes.

Pa Angus Field Day at Frey Farm July 24

The Pennsylvania Angus Association schedules a July 24 field day at Twin Oak Farms south of Quarryville with morning judging in three classifications and afternoon talks by livestock experts. Registration runs 9 to 10 a.m. and judging 10 to 11, followed by a parade, lunch, and speeches on brood cows herd sire selection prog eny and herd management. The event is open to all beef producers and includes a farm tour and plant visit.

McHale Urges Rethink Of Dairy Expansion In Pennsylvania

State Secretary of Agriculture Jim McHale urged dairy producers to reconsider expanding output amid falling per capita milk consumption and rising imbalance between supply and demand. He cited 56 percent class I milk in Pittsburgh areas dropping to 45 percent in parts of the state and backed Federal Milk Marketing Order efforts via the Farmers Union Milk Producers Association.
