Cucumber Picker Built by Lancaster County Farmer
Lancaster County farmer Isaac Z. Smoker designed a cucumber picking machine from a truck chassis and a 15 horsepower motor. The unit moves slowly through fields with hydraulic pressure, six pickers lie on folding platforms, and cucumbers are conveyed to a top box and hydraulically dumped into a wagon for delivery for Stoltzfus who farms one acre this year.
