Henry S Mellott formerly of Breezewood joins Lancaster county Soil Conservation co as a conservationist for farms. A 1958 Penn State graduate, he previously worked in Bradford County mapping surveying ponds and diversions before military service. He will live in Lancaster County and handle soil and water conservation planning.

Reserves Growing Tells Members at Annual Op Meeting

Dr Paul Hand economist for Interstate Music Producers cooperative told 260 District 11 members at the annual banquet Thursday that reserves of 130000 were tied to holdings. Meetings listed across multiple towns noted dairy and poultry activities with awards for 4H members and 25 year pins.

Hess Appointed Assistant County Agent for PSU Extension

Gerald H Hess, Elizabethtown area resident and PSU graduate, is named assistant county agent for Northampton County in the Penn State Extension Service. He will work with Samuel D. Lewis in the Easton office starting February 1, and he is married with a one month old daughter.

District Forester John Kitch Is Promoted

John Kitch of Reinholds R1 district forester was promoted in grade by the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters on Tuesday. He is one of 25 promoted in the state’s 20 forest districts as part of a program to assist small woodlot owners and boost timber sales from state forests.

Broiler Prices Higher In 1960 Report Shows

A 1960 average price of 1835 cents per broiler edged above the 1787 cent yearly average of 1959 while 1958’s figure was 1980. Broiler sales fell from 4,533,460 head in 1959 to 3,819,945 last year, though heavier fowl and roasters partly offset the drop, with total 1960 volume at 4,544,388 versus 5,099,060 in 1959.
