Lancaster County dairy records show Landis herd leading with 652 pounds butterfat and 16 465 pounds of milk from 29 2 average Holsteins. Curtis Akers Quarryville RD1 placed second with 647 pounds butterfat and 16 995 pounds milk from 353 cows. Paul B Zimmerman Ephrata RD1 third with 643 pounds butterfat and 16 523 pounds milk from 31 2 cows. In all 389 herds cited for average over 400 pounds butterfat. 419 cows produced 400 pounds butterfat. Six herds exceeded 5 000 pounds solids not fat. Average 18 727 cows on Red Rose DHIA in 1970. 487 pounds butterfat and 12 598 pounds milk per cow.

At a Pennsylvania Egg Marketing Association gathering Fred Pontz distributed a questionnaire on egg purchasing policy and discussed that the confidential data could be valuable. The nominating committee proposed officers Earl Hess as president Tom Smith as vice president R Clair Lauder as treasurer and E J Lawless Jr as secretary. Larry Kegerreis of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Marketing staff outlined a Northeast promotional program funded by 11 states with New York State carrying out the work. The idea targets profit with a survey suggesting eggs could yield 249 percent gross profit in the dairy division.

Two Pennsylvania dairy cooperatives Sign a management contract effective January 1 1971 The Country Belle Cooperative of Pittsburgh and the Lehigh Valley Cooperative Farmers of Allentown will combine manufacturing purchasing and selling under one management The Lehigh Valley sales are about 75 million dollars and Country Belle about 24 million with total expected sales over 100 million in 1971 The Pittsburgh manager reports to Richard Allison and the merged firms have 260 and 820 members respectively
