Mount Joy Farmers Cooperative Reports 1970 sales
At Hosetter's Banquet Hall the Mount Joy Farmers Cooperative reported 1970 sales of 3.5 million with total sales in excess of 35 million. The annual dinner was attended by 260 members and guests. Louis Bixler and Donald Ney of Marietta RD1 were elected directors. Sim Horton, the manager, outlined yearly activities and Atlantic Dairy Association displays. Clarence Newcomer, Lancaster County District Attorney, and Max Smith, County Agent, spoke.

Barley Named Outstanding Young Farmer for 1970 71
John E Barley of Washington Boro Ri chosen as Outstanding Young Farmer by the Greater Millersville Jaycees for 1970 71. Barley built a 600 acre operation with tobacco corn alfalfa barley dairy and beef cattle. he is married with a son and will attend the Penn Jaycees board meeting February 6 to compete for state and national honors. Glenn Witmer chairs the project.

USDA Measures Seasonality In Cattle Market
Seasonal changes in cattle supplies and prices are smaller than in past years but follow similar patterns. The USDA report outlines month to month variations in production marketing and prices for cattle and beef cuts and explains factors such as calving, feed, long term trends, strikes and wars. Fed cattle marketings show little seasonal variation at 15 Midwestern markets while cow slaughter and prices swing seasonally due to costs in cow calf operations.
