At Lancaster County Crops and Soils Day held at the Guernsey Sales Pavilion, Herbert Frey of Manetta and George W Jackson & Son of Christiana led county hand harvesters with yields of 1959 and 1788 bushels per acre respectively. Frey and Jackson joined state top five earners and received purple ribbons during Farm Show Week. County agent Arnold G Lueck noted drought reduced statewide yields and announced the hand harvested class would be discontinued in favor of machine harvested competition.

Lueck will cover narrow rows plant population hybrids and starter fertilizers while Doebler outlines the farmer viewpoint.
