Freeman outlines farm program to tie city and farm interests
Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman spoke at a Harrisburg regional policy meeting about a program to put every acre of land to work and balance urban and rural needs. He warned against reducing production and cautioned that by 1980 the U S would need 50 million more acres of cropland to feed the population. He described a future where farmland becomes a source of recreation and economic activity, urging practical use of land near urban centers.

David Lapp, 20, of Bareville receives selection to join seven Pennsylvanians in the International Farm Youth Exchange. He will spend six months in New Zealand with sheep ranchers returning April next year. Glenn Porter, Washington Boro, is in Nepal with the program. Lapp hoped for Austria or Australia and is active in sheep swine steers poultry dairy calf strawberry potato tractor maintenance electric and Town and Country clubs. County leaders seek funds to cover trip costs.

Henning Reports on Pennsylvania Conservation Progress
Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture William L Henning told the 16th annual convention of the National Association of Soil Conservation Districts that in the 25 year span since districts began, steady progress has been made in natural resources management nationwide. He said agriculture is more than barberry bush eradication.
