County Tomato Grower Is Honored By Canners
Clyde K. Mylin of Willow Street was named one of three Pennsylvania tomato growers honored by the Canners Association at the annual vegetable grower conference at Pennsylvania State University. Mylin reported 153 acres planted in 1961 with 206 tons per acre and 754 percent of the crop graded No 1. Robert M. Poe and Drue Chapin also received plaques for top yield and quality in their classes. Mylin attributed rising yields to improved varieties and noted May planting dates and stable cultivation and fertilization practices.

The Lancaster County Poultry Association elected Charles Warfel of Conestoga as president replacing Mark Myer of Lampeter whose term ended January 1. Benjamin Burkholder of New Holland becomes vice president with Robert Harnish as secretary and Cleveland Hastings as treasurer. The by laws limit officers to two consecutive years.
