Prices Lower Receipts Gain At Stock Yards
Cattle receipts at the Lancaster market rose 2.3 percent year over year to 269,477 head in 1955 while dollar value neared $23 million for all species. Patrons received $56,760,980.47, down 54 percent from 1954. Stockers and feeder cattle led gains with 83,425 sold, the largest since 1952, as the market ends with Lancaster’s status as the top stock yards east of the Mississippi per John M. Hooker.

January Poultry Sale Shows Stronger Lancaster Demand
January sales at Lancaster Poultry Exchange in Rohrerstown rose with broilers up 18 to 25 percent across nine sales. Of 243 lots listed, 237 slots offered 674 156 birds and 217 lots sold 619 816 birds including 597 055 broilers 14 475 caponettes 4 295 Leghorn fowl and 1 200 heavy fowl.
