Three County Residents Die In Auto Crash Near Morehead
Three Lancaster County residents Thomas W Matthews 52 Katie Eshleman Matthews 53 and Mrs Clayton M Woerth 53 were killed instantly in an automobile truck collision eight miles west of Morehead Kentucky on an ice coated bridge. Matthews a Quarryville concrete blocks partner at Quarryville Concrete Products Co was active in church and community work. Mrs Matthews daughter of Ezra and Adeline Eshelman helped design church kitchens and Woerth operated a Nickel Mines store. Funeral services for the Mathews were held and for Mrs Woerth the Browns of Christiana will conduct services. Ernest J Nel editor Lancaster Farming resided with the Matthews.

Hess Again on Tobacco Co-Op Board for Three Years
Mark S. Hess begins his second three year term as director of the Lancaster County Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association. The acting manager of the cooperative, who resides on RG Lancaster, was named again Saturday night. Also elected were Elmer Balmer from the northwest district Walter S. Witwer from the northeast district and RL Gordonville. Hess represents the southern district.

Ephrata Hospital Receives $9947 Tobacco Study Grant
The National Tobacco Research Council awarded $9,947 to Ephrata Community Hospital the only county hospital to gain such funding. Pathologist Dr. Russell W. Weller will lead tobacco medicine research. Old Fairground Hall Burns in Lancaster War Assembly Plant Fire
A historic Lancaster ExmbitionBuilding at the Fair grounds burned Monday evening. The 1300 by 75 foot stucco frame structure housed New Holland Machinery Co as a final assembly plant for forage equipment. Loss estimated at 110000 with contents about 35000. Fire crews from Lancaster, Southern Manheim Township and Rohrerstown fought the blaze, laying hoses up to 2000 feet.

Refusal to Give Up Phone Line Probed
State police investigate two women in Ephrata for refusing to yield a nine party line so a third could report a Denver area fire. Mrs Allison Messner said two women kept talking as she tried to call the fire department. Reading operators confirmed a mistaken dial during the attempt.

Esther Eileen Stoltzfus of Elverson Chester County received a Holstein-Friesian Association of America certificate as her 4H calf Elm Becca L Tillie was nominated for Junior All American. Three top Holstein judges in Lacona New York selected the calf among the best six of each age group in the United States in 1955. Tillie’s dam is a daughter of the Tullie cow a three time grand champion in 1952 milked 100 pounds daily for 60 days in the Elm Becca herd. The sire’s dam Colantha Lady Monogram Ex recently posted 21408 pounds milk and 1012 pounds butterfat with twice daily milking over a year.

Farm Prices Edge Up as Soil Bank Vote Looms
