Harold Good boosts silage with rye alfalfa sod seeding
Harold Good in Highrock Pa Balboa rye seeded into alfalfa sod tripled silage tonnage on his 285 acre York County farm. He uses fall sowing on unprepared ground, sod seeding with 0-20-20 fertilizer, and combines Balboa rye with alfalfa to improve moisture retention and reduce weeds. He expects oats-alfalfa later and reports two silos with full or near full statuses. Northern Lancaster visitors noted his efficient no plow system and deep fertilizer placement.
