Bee Inventory Continues Decline In Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania on July 1 1969 totaled 106000 bee colonies a 4 percent drop from a year earlier and the lowest on record while colony condition stood at 91 percent of normal the highest since 1954 nectar plants 88 percent of normal best in 15 years and 10 points above last July. Weather favored nectar plant growth fruit trees bloomed heavily tulip poplar and locust provided nectar and early honey production was strong. Nationwide 48 states had 4731000 colonies July 1 a 1 percent drop from 1968 with a gradual decline since 1958 until 1967 when a 1 percent rise occurred.
