Ag Chemical Seminar Set For Thursday at Host Town Motel

A seminar on agricultural chemicals including pesticides and veterinary drugs will be held next Thursday April 24 at the Host Town Motel in Lancaster. Chair Henry E Givler Area Vo-Ag Supervisor says the meeting invites all representatives of local businesses dealing in Ag Chemicals. The day’s program includes a 10:00 film Safe Use of Pesticides (FDA-USDA).

Solanco FFA Parliamentary Procedure team wins area contest

Solanco High School FFA takes first in the Area Contest at Eastern High School York County marking back to back wins after March county success at Manheim High School. The squad advances to the Regional Contest on May 6 at Millersville State Teachers College. Deans Sherick of Penn Manor wins area public speaking with You Future In Production Agriculture.

Farm & Home Fund Drive Reaches Sixty Thousand

Lancaster County Farm and Home Center reports $61,138 raised to date to retire the debt. John Herr, steering committee, notes about two thirds in cash and the rest in pledges. Bank balances total $12,121.19 and mortgage due stands at $170,000. Howard Campbell cites $7,117.12 in operating funds and March 103 meetings with 67 planned for April. Projected six month income from room rentals totals $4,225.90 with $594.50 January, $1,238.50 February, and $1,124.90 March received. The board also raises scholarship funds for youths from $300 to $400. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM.

Eby Heifer Tops Doylestown Sale at Southeastern PA

Breezy Glen Archie Darlene a March two year old topped the Southeastern Pennsylvania Holstein Heifer Sale in Doylestown consigned by Donald Eby Gordonville R1 selling for 830 dollars. Second high Mario Hector Leah from Lancaster County consigned by Ezra Martin Ephrata sold for 770 dollars.

Clair Zerby Leaves Teaching to Farm Sheep Flock

Clair Zerby, a Yo Ag instructor at Warwick High School, resigns effective June 27 to move with his family and Registered Hampshire sheep to Tioga County. He plans a 190 acre farm and about 136 acres of hay to be produced in June, pursuing livestock work he has wanted for 8 to 10 years.

Guernsey Cattle Club Holds 92nd Convention in Hershey

The National Guernsey Cattle Club hosted its 92nd convention in Hershey and toured Lancaster County on Monday. Guests included national figures from across the U S and dairy queens from Michigan Indiana Colorado and Wisconsin. Also featured was the eighth renewal Guernsey Sale at the Guernsey Sales Pavilion on Wednesday.
