Damping Off Causes and Control Across Plant Pathogens
Dr. J W Heuberger, extension plant pathologist at the University of Delaware, explains damping off as seedling collapse or failure to germinate caused by numerous soilborne organisms. Nearly 40 pathogens can trigger it with seedling emergence, post emergence, and seed coat infections. Control relies on seed and soil treatment, sanitation, dry soil, and safe fungicides like Ferbam Zineb and Captan.
