Governor to Dedicate New PSDA Building in Harrisburg

Governor William W. Scranton will dedicate the State Department of Agriculture office and laboratory building on North Cameron Street Harrisburg at 2 pm Thursday May 6. Open house tours follow the dedication of the 3 million facility with officials and employees inspecting the new offices and laboratories.

Veterinarians From Seven States To Meet In York

Six hundred veterinarians from seven states are expected for a day long educational session in York on April 22. Twenty two experts will demonstrate medical treatment of ailing animals at the Second Mid Atlantic States Veterinary Clinic sponsored by the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association.

Five day forecast shows near normal temperatures

The period Saturday through Wednesday is forecast near normal with a normal high of 65 and low of 42 degrees. Saturday will be cool, Sunday more seasonable, and the rest of the period without major changes. Rain is expected to total about a quarter inch toward the end.

County Holstein Club Tour Plans April Visit

The Lancaster County Holstein Club announces its annual tour on April 21 visiting Cumberland County farms including Walhlea Farms Carlisle R1 with 68 milking cows producing 14 439 pounds of milk and 543 pounds of fat. NEPPCO pushes for tighter egg weight standards

NEPPCO Egg Marketing Committee chair C H Stains urged the Northeastern Poultry Producers Council to adopt US Standards for shell egg weight classes with a stricter tolerance. The proposal targets reduced variation and better uniformity as modern grading equipment allows tighter sizing.

Lancaster County to study long range land use planning

Lancaster County Soil and Water Conservation District directors voted to study natural resources use in the county as a prelude to expanding conservation activities. Boyd Kinzley of the Pennsylvania Soil Commission outlined a step by step inventory driven plan, starting with soil types and land use suitability. Amos Funk, district chairman, said the district would seek assistance from the Soil Conservation Service.
