GOP leaders seek first responder tax break for volunteers
Erie County legislative Republicans propose a local law granting an exemption up to 10 percent of assessed value on a volunteer first responder's primary residence who has served at least two years. A lifetime exemption would apply after 20 years, extended to surviving spouses with 20 years. Eligibility requires residence in the served district and the home in the volunteer's primary district.
