Dawson County Fair opens with livestock art and flower shows

The Dawson County Fair starts this week at the Fair Grounds and Community Center. Buildings open to take entries for all divisions at 4 am Tuesday. Entries for art exhibits close at 6 pm with judging set for 4 pm.

Garcia Faces Transfer for Life Term in Huntsville

Eugene Garcia, convict in the Linda Delgado murder, will be moved from Dawson County jail to the Huntsville State Penitentiary to begin a life sentence while appealing. Judge George Hansard noted a 90 day extension for an appeal as Garcia awaits transfer and possible habeas relief. Alcorta also granted a hearing on a habeas writ regarding the 1971 rape case in Brownfield with a life sentence imposed in 1972.

Grand Jury Set To Review 30 Cases Monday

The September term opens Monday as a Dawson County Grand Jury weighs evidence for trials in at least 30 felony cases. Twenty were summoned for duty at 4 am with 12 to serve. names include Dallas Woods Bob Capps Jack Kelley Lee Edward Spencer Gus Burkett Neal Echols and others. The docket lists assaults burglaries theft narcotics and writing for true bills among the charges.

Lamesa's Tor Booster Club sets Country Western Jamboree for Sept 29 at 7 30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Four bands Texas Brass and Strings Country Gold Country Kings and Country Cousins of Big Spring perform 45 minutes each with emcee Bottles White. Proceeds fund athletics.
