A Lamesa medical official urges parents not to kill biting animals but to pen them for a 14 day rabies precaution. Rabies vaccines may start if the animal isn’t captured or destroyed. County health authorities should be notified of any bite incident as dog bite cases rise this summer.
Lamesa considers a mobile home ordinance requiring construction standards permits anchors tie downs and underpinning with a Jan 1 1974 effective date if passed on final reading June 18. Estimated costs from $60 to $375 depend on trailer size soil and underpining while council weighs life safety against expense.
Dawson County ranks in the top ten Texas counties for egg production in 1972, totaling 4.96 million dozen. Texas overall produced 2.685 million dozen, placing the state ninth in the nation. Agriculture Commissioner John C. White praised local producers and broader state efforts.
High point junior and senior competitors will each win a registered yearling quarter horse colt at the annual Dawson County 4-H Horse Show next weekend. Entries welcomed by 9 a.m. show day, with preentry encouraged. Sue Howard or county extension office provide details.
Dawson County 4 H clubs earned state recognition at the State 4 H Roundup with several second place finishes. The electric demonstration team Leah Dennis Sharn Gay Aichart coached by Mrs Donald Aichard and the Field Crops Demonstration team Randy Airhart Teri Airhart coached by Mrs Donald Airhart each placed second. Dairy demonstration Gayle Griffin Katrina Reid placed sixth and Entomology Jill Beam Barry Harris Marla O'Brien and Community Improvement Shelly Montgomery Kelli Youngblood also received honors. Bus breakdown delayed return five hours.
Lamesa High School students excelled at the University of Texas Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin. Across thirteen piano competitors, all earned awards with first division for Russell Hughes Jenny Orson and Leette Trice. Second division went to Robin Kral Rusty Mooney Jeanette Kral Becky Patterson and Anise Hale. Third division awarded to Cindijo Johnson Jan Johnson Darla Leatherwood and Candy Barrington. First division winners received gold medals and second division silver.
Boys and girls aged 8 to 18 urged to pre register for the summer recreation program at the Boys Club. Activities include tennis badminton volleyball basketball archery weight lifting shuffleboard horseshoes pool and ping pong with supervision and coaching offered in skill sports. A $1 membership fee applies except for current members. misplaced cards require a 25 cent replacement. Registration hours are 9 to noon and 1 to 5 pm daily starting June 18.
