Dawson County Grievance Committee Names Drawn at Court
Dawson County Commissioners opened a thirteen item agenda as County Judge Leslie Pratt drew three names from last year’s grand jury pool to form a nine member Grievance Committee. Nominees Nolan Hayes Clinton Smith Billy J Gill may join the panel with the sheriff tax assessor clerk treasurer county attorney and others. The committee can recommend salary changes to the court and may enact changes if nine members unanimously agree. A separate action called for drafting a Peace Officers Resolution for inter local emergency assistance.

Spanish Class Meeting Set Thursday in Lamesa
The Conversational Spanish Class organized by the Lamesa Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce with Lamesa Public Schools holds an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the LHS Student Center. About 45 people expressed interest. attendance is to gauge enrollment for a weekly $30 program taught by district teachers.

Over 22 000 License Tags Going On Sale Here Feb 1
Texas license plates go on sale February 1 with 22 000 regular tags in Dawson County alone. Owners may mail renewal applications with fees and $1 per vehicle to the local county tax office for processing. Personalized plates cost an extra $10 and remain the same once renewed. First two letters on Dawson plates are CC with third letters N P R S T V W X or Y and numbers 10 to 999 across nine combinations. See new licenses page 2. Also Kewanee Oil Co completed No 4 609 North Welch Unit in the Welch field producing 103.70 barrels daily of 34.2 gravity oil plus 25.90 barrels water.

Farmers hear 1972 Cotton and Feed Grain program details
Local ASCS manager Eddie Brown led a county meeting with 125 area farmers in the District Court room. He said the 1972 cotton and feed grain allotments are basically the same as 1971, with 90 percent of last year’s yield used for 1972 payment yields and spot checks planned during signup.

Lamesa High School representatives Keith Merrick and Vicky Borland will compete in the All Area Choir contest in Lubbock for All-State honors. Merrick earned a third place in All-Region at Midland. Borland is an All-Area first alternate.
