The weekly bale report from the Texas Employment Commission shows 80 243 bales harvested, up 17 272 from the previous week. Despite ice and snow, northern area farms brace for a steady rush of trailers as harvest continues.
Randy Burkett, a Lamesa High School sophomore, was moved by air to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after a farm accident near the Midway Community. He had earlier undergone extensive surgery at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, where doctors removed both feet and his left arm from severe electrical burns. He remained conscious and recognized his parents following the operation.
Oil activity reports from Dawson County show a year end surge with Prudential Minerals Exploration announcing a 9300 foot wildcat near Sparenburg in the Ackerly field. Texaco and Meridian Oil also report new completions and extensions in Spraberry and Dean Tex H amon fields, with several wells producing oil and water after acidizing and fracturing.
