Public Defender Grant Approval Anticipated

Organizational Meeting Set in Dawson County Unit

An organizational meeting of the Dawson County Unit of the American Cancer Society Texas Division is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chamber of Commerce meeting room. Planting Time Returns as Warm Weather Prompts Farmers

The region foresees rain delays but winds and sand persist. Farmers rush to plant with tractors, seed loads heading to fields, and O'Donnell reports of early planting. Moisture from fall and winter raises subsoil reserves, with 4.50 inches recorded this year and forecasts of at least two more inches before planting. Agriculturalists urge minimal tillage to conserve moisture, as rising soil temps and good subsoil moisture spur possible widespread planting this week.

New Officers Due Election for Lamesa School Board

Lamesa school trustees plan Monday 7:30 p.m. meeting in the Board Room at 212 North Houston. New officers will be elected after installing two new members Wendell Strahan and Ed Fulbright and incumbent Dr. David Smiley. The agenda includes personnel resignations, contract ratifications, appointment of a board of equalization, and administrative reports from the superintendent, business manager, and curriculum director. Also to be discussed are policies on personnel contracts sick leave and leaves of absence.

Flower Grove Cancer Benefit Jamboree Thursday Night

The Flower Grove Auditorium hosts a Cancer Benefit Jamboree on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Vondays Murphree and His Country Cousins, Joe Dunn and the Twin Fiddles, Roger Fleckenstein's Cotton Squares, and the 4-H Ghost Dancers. Admission is a donation to the American Cancer Society, with no fixed price.
