Smut Fires Hit Umatilla and Walla Walla Wheat
A surge of smut in Umatilla county and the Walla Walla district fuels destructive threshing fires. The fifth machine burned this season when the Embiyak separator exploded at the Predembyak ranch near Saxe station, destroying the stationary unit and 100 sacks of wheat. The Lina to the owner was set at $606 and the gear was uninsured. The wheat was insured with the Oregon Fire Relief association. Doctors Lynn Blakeslee Swinburne plan auto trips from Pendleton to Medical Springs, La Grande, then the springs, famous for its waters and near Union. The travelers intend to visit Wallowa Lake before returning in about two weeks.

Alta Society to Host Afternoon Lawn Party
The Ludiea of the Alta society of the Catholic church will not hold a lawn party in the afternoon and evening on Tuesday the 4th at Mrs. F. Sewlin’s home 810 Main Avenue.
