There were no cherries to distribute at the depot this morning due to an oversight among workers who assumed others would supply. Bookkeepers were prepared to hand out fruit to passengers but none were available. Growers near the city should notify the booster office and contact Mr. Lavey to arrange future supply. Who will provide tomorrow's supply?
A fire on the W A Raymond ranch four miles northeast of town caused about 35000 in damages. Two threshing settings, over 1000 sacks of wheat, a derrick wagon and feed racks were burned. The blaze was said to have started from an explosion in a motor. The engine and water wagon were saved. Some standing grain burned but losses were contained by the threshing crew and local residents.
Engineer H. A. Brandon reports the O. R. & N. extension from this city toward Joseph will reach the fish hatchery Friday. Tracklaying runs 2000 feet per day and will speed up after crossing the Wallowa river. Ballasting and surfacing crews follow. expected 45 days to reach Wallowa.
