A long river search between Hilgard and Perry failed to locate the drowned man after Mr. Batters fell from a logging train. The party disbanded with two theories: the body swept toward La Grande or lodged under a log unseen by the line search. A new clean-out drive may start at Hilgard to recover the body if lodged.
Rev W W Deal and Hon A E Eaton of Union returned from Salem after promoting Willamette University where Eaton recently donated 50000 dollars for a new building. Ground breaking for a foundation will occur during June 14 18. Eaton will deliver the commencement address marking a rare eastern Oregon honor.
